Water turns cloudy when alk is dosed

Why is this happening? When i dose alk it hits the water and turns cloudy... is that normal?

The skimmer chamber doesn’t seem best to me.

I mix mine with a small cup of R/O water and pour very slowly into the path of a power head. I watch to make sure it’s dissipating quickly enough that the white cloud never has a chance to reach any corals.

This happened because when you added the soda ash (I assume), it creates a localized pocket of high pH, which is the white cloud you see.

Normal and expected.

When needed I dose into the filter socks. Any that precipitates out will be re - dissolved by water passing thru the socks
