Hello all,
Just thought I’d add my bit on here.
I started his set up about 18 months ago, the tank itself was second hand and no mods done to it.
Started with a mix of Carib sea and real reef rock, Aqua Forest bio sand.
The BioSand I suppose had some beneficial bacteria but I also ran Dr.Tims and did a fish in cycle.
Equipment-wise, XR15 G6 Pro, BM mini skimmer, Axis 40 for a return and Nero 3 for flow.
I always kind of knew that I would likely go SPS more so but started with fully mixed. As it turned out, generally SPS did much better in this system for some reason, this made it pretty easy to lean that way.
For 12 months plus, I religiously did 50% weekly water change, while it was mostly mixed with a few SPS, this worked ok and I did. It dose anything.
I now only really have SPS and zoas and I dose All For Reef on a dosing pump.
Parameters are very stable now.
Alk sits between 8.5 and 9 dkh
Cal - 430
Mag - 1350
PH - 8.2
Nutrients do sit a little on the higher side but the animals seem to be pretty happy, that said, a roller filter will be installed this week. I went with the Red Sea NanoMat.
Keen to see other similar set ups.
Peace.
