I’m setting up a new 60” 150g mixed reef with lps and softies. I need help with type, size, number, and placement of wave makers. I’ll probably go with Jebao. My current 75g has the dreaded rock wall against the back so getting away from that poo trap and opening this one up. Any advice would be appreciated.

Get the scape in place and then add the water movers and try them out in various places to see how you can make the best of it. Lots of folks try to make the water move in a continuous circle with the current pushing stuff towards the overflow. It’s not possible to describe/perscribe powerhead placement until the rock structures are in place, ime.

I like Jebao and Tunze for water movers, go big and dial them back if the gravel is collecting in the overflow 😇

Like already stated get aquascape in place, add wave makers and look for dead spots where debris settles and either add or move heads, i have a 6ft 250 gal with 3/4 glass so i went with the jebao dmp65 just to make sure they held good through the thick glass. I also have mine on random so nothing is always blowing in the same direction all the time. Looks like a small tornado in my tank blowing every direction and all my torches, frogspawns and hammers seen to love it so far.

I am a big fan of the flat action of gyres. I tried the Hygger just cause they are inexpensive and am loving it.

Video of the one in my 130 gallon.

I should add it's only at about 40%.

In my humble opinion thats a good place to start as long as they hold good through your glass. I've always gone big and just dialed everything back. It is better to have more horsepower and not need it than need it and not have it ( not everyone agrees me but thats the way i do it) but it does add price! Good luck with your build

Look at warranty
Look at power use, wattage
Look to see if it has battery backup option, support and what is needed to setup
Check to see if it is supported by your controller, if one is used, or planned
If going with Gyres make sure you understand how forward, reverse, work and setup accordingly
Add in 1 spare for easier cleaning, maintenance, and emergency backup

Above all, set a budget and consider all above before making purchase. Flow is one vital role in our systems and it will change the longer you stay in the hobby. Flow with a new system will be different with a successful one at year one, two, three, five, and ten.

Plan accordingly.

Nice! That’s what I have in the 75 now and they’re at 30%. I love the idea of getting rid of the wires with the Jebao prop pumps, but may just get set up first as advised by others. Thanks.

Throw in some food or aminos with color, and you can see the flow pattern and adjust
