I have an red sea reefer Max e 170 with sump.
I have 2 Nero 3 wavemakers but can’t find the right placement and schedule I think.

Someone that can help me with the placement?

Honestly, water movement speaks for itself. Put the wavemaker (S?) in the tank, let it run a bit, move it around and find a place where it doesn't disrupt the gravel, causes circular flow in the tank (if possible) and surface disruption is generally a great feature for oxygenation and happy living things.

Let the chord's lead! 😇

Setting up powerheads is always trial amd error for me. There's no cookie cutter setting IME because there are too many differences between tanks. Sand vs no sand, SPS or LPS etc.
I like mine on the back wall but that can be challenging on an AIO
I have it with the sump, so no AOI!

Doesn't it still have the chamber on the back that fills with water tho? If so it would be similar to an AIO as far as mounting powerheads. Some outside magnets are water proof or can be made water proof which would allow mounting to the back. Sorry I'm not familiar with the tank. I ran a regular reefer 170 for 6 years and I had two MP10s on the back wall.

It does have the chamber in the back, but i’m going to close it in a week or so.

The Nero 3 have waterproof magents, i can mount them on the back.

What schedule did u use for your mp10s?

id be careful mounting the "dry side" magnet under water in the back chamber.. that might lead to issues down the road

I have the same tank, I took out the pump that Red Sea came with. I put my Tunze on the corner with a slight elevate to get surface movement. It is trial and error. Note if you do take that pump out it will siphon when power goes out!

So my current flow uses two Nero 3’s. I vacuumed sealed the “dry” magnet and slid it down the back below the over flow to the right. My second Nero 3 is on the left upper glass. My return from the sump is a ecotech vectra s2 and that basically points towards a the front glass.
Then lastly is the “closed loop in the back chamber that is used when it’s in AIO mode.

I have the same tank. I’ve put both wave makers on the back wall with the magnets submerged in the rear sump. Hope that won’t be a problem. That said you really need some trial and error placement to see what flow pattern will work best for your display. Mine has a center rock mountain and the power heads blow the water around each side. Your situation may be completely different. Good luck with your experiments!!
