starting off, i hope this is posted in the right place!

asking for someone else, his sps dominated tank has been dealing with this weird kind of slimy strands for a while, corals aren’t doing great while the parameters and icp came back perfectly normal very vague, i know. i can ask him for the exact parameters tomorrow

currently running fallow, but every time a fish is added it gets stressed starts breathing quickly after 2 days or so and then dies

anyone have any ideas?
this was the best picture i could get under the microscope unfortunately

Chrysophytes possibly

I believe a type of dinos and maybe some filamentous cyano called lyngbya starting up too. I think chrysophytes as well but they are pretty harmless to fish

I would definitely start running carbon in the tank. Both of those options can be toxic. I find added silicates and also an airstone to the sump helps. I would also keep nutrients detectable and order live rock or sand from a place like tbs if possibly.
