Weird Growth on my Nessarius

Hi all,

Newbie here! I grew up with saltwater tanks when I was a child but was never an active catetaker until now. Decided to statrt a tank to share some of that joy with my toddler.

My take has been cycled for a bit now. I assume this is one of my nessarius. This is the first time I've seen any of my nessies climbing the glass.

I feed sinking pellets in the am and a cube of brine shrimp in the pm that ends up falling to the sand once the fish and crabs get their fill. Tank mates are turbos, trochus, ceriths, hermits, emerald crab, sally lightfoot, softy corals, ocel clown and firefish in a 50 gallon.

Water has been pretty stable but noiced Ca on lower end and KH on the higher end. Dosed 1/8 of a tsp of CaCl recently and everything has leveled out.

Any guesses what is going on with its shell? Its raised and brown. Also has a different looking texture. Maybe rougher? Kind of looks like caramel popcorn to me.

Looks to be hydroids but pics are somewhat blurry

I'd just like to suggest that you rehome the Sally Lightfoot crab. Those can be very, very aggressive and take down just about everything else you've listed as livestock, from corals to other crabs to fish. Sally's are no joke. Very cool in the right aquarium, but not so great for general reef tanks, unless your goal is a single, fat and happy Sally Lightfoot

Ty! Will try to get a closer look tonight. Sorry for the pic quality. Was using low light setting to minimize glare since it was at night.

Ha good looking out. He does get feisty when the brine shrimp goes in. About to set up a second tank so may have to go in there. TY.

Things like this come and go on my snail shells all the time. I don't think you have anything to worry about!
