What’s eating my Candy Canes?

My kryptonite candy canes haven’t been extending the last few days. When I pulled them to the front of the tank and looked closely at them, it looks like the flesh is being eaten by something. Any ideas? Should I dip them? What dip?

I don’t see anything moving on them.

I don't think you have anything that's eating the coral. Looks like loss and recession due to parameters or bacteria or both, possibly. Could you give us the gamut of standard testable parameters as well as light, placement, tank size, filtration, flow, other inhabitants, tank age, a whole tank shot, etc. Info needed to give good info.

I dipped my hammer, torch and candy canes in Koral MD. There were some tiny “bugs” in the bucket. I don’t know what they are or if they are harmful. They were too small to take a picture of.

All of my LPS are struggling and they all started around the same time. My zoas, palys and acropora look good.

My water parameters are good except magnesium which is high (due to the kalkwasser I was using).
SAL 1.025
ALK 8.5
PH 7.8 - 8.2
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 0
Phosphate .02
Magnesium > 1500

I added 2 pajama cardinals and did a single dose of Microbacter7 (which Ihave never used before) a few days before I noticed the problem.

I’ll get a tank pic up soon. I have some dinos or cyano going on. Not sure which.

This is a 20 gallon long. It’s been running for 8 years or so. One maroon clown, 3 pajama cardinals and a lemon damsel. A few snails. Lots of zoas and palys. One small acropora. A torch, hammer and candy canes, all small colonies, fairly new.

i have a HOB filter with filter floss and activated carbon.

2 Hydor Nano powerheads.
A Radion XR30 turned way down (20%) and on acclimation mode.

it looks like salt may have dropped on the colony, causing the numerous welts and wounds. They will heal quickly if that is the case.

Interesting. It’s possible I knocked a chunk of salt creep into the tank. Is that what you mean?

That is exactly what I mean. I've done it a lot in the past and it looks just like that.

My candy canes have revived with no apparent damage. I don’t know what happened. In fact, there are now 5 heads instead of 4!
