Aren’t sponges supposed to be more like a fuzz/smaller? This is all over the rock. Kinda like cobwebsSponge
Not necessarily, sponges are incredibly diverse, but a clearer/close up pic would confirmAren’t sponges supposed to be more like a fuzz/smaller? This is all over the rock. Kinda like cobwebs
Looks like a calcareous build up but need a clearer picHi all,
I have this old live rock (7 months) I transferred into my new tank. It has some stuff that I haven’t seen before growing on it. Any ID?
For the sake of future forum readers, say you had a calcareous build up, what would be the solution?Looks like a calcareous build up but need a clearer pic
May be calcareous buildup as mentioned, though when you look at it up close does it branch upward and/or have very small branches coming off the sides. Do they look like hollow tubes up close? If yes than I'd say sponge
Thanks, what is calcareous build up and how do I fix this? Sorry for the silly questionMay be calcareous buildup as mentioned, though when you look at it up close does it branch upward and/or have very small branches coming off the sides. Here's one I found on another thread, this is what I'm talking about, also have tons of this stuff in my tankMay be calcareous buildup as mentioned, though when you look at it up close does it branch upward and/or have very small branches coming off the sides. I may be wrong but if I remember correctly it's caused by low flow, which caused by debris settling, increasing the flow may work, though I may be wrong. Thanks, what is calcareous build up and how do I fix this? Sorry for the silly question
I see, thanks for the help!!I may be wrong but if I remember correctly it's caused by low flow, which caused by debris settling, increasing the flow may work, though I may be wrong.
Out of curiosity, does it look like the photo above?I see, thanks for the help!!
This looks like filaments when coral is trying to digest excess nutrients, and use these filaments to obtain food in various forms , or even when nutrients are low and .. . . . even happy coral will display this known as mesentrial filaments. If not is clatharina sponge but pics are fuzzy to fully confirmHere's one I found on another thread, this is what I'm talking about, also have tons of this stuff in my tank
(Under the acan)
I was thinking the same. I have bryzoans in my tank. Mine tend to be more branchy, but still very small, like 1/4 inch long at most. Some research makes me think it might be bryozoa
Its definitely a sponge, mesenterial filaments do not branch and are thin/flat. I have that particular sponge all over my rockwork. This looks like filaments when coral is trying to digest excess nutrients, and use these filaments to obtain food in various forms , or even when nutrients are low and .. . . . even happy coral will display this known as mesentrial filaments.
