Why are acros and torches the things being compared out of curiosity? They seem mostly unrelated
I think that unlike other corals, a lot of reefs out there can mostly comprise of each, so it’s somewhat comparable in terms of people craziness about them.

Though, I agree - acros cannot be compared to any other kind as the most diverse coral species out of them all :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I think that’s the reason - being unrelated.

Acros require very high flow environments while Torches require more moderate flows. But I see both types of these corals in many aquariums. Many because the modern equipment allows us the ability to fine tune our aquariums to allow both types of corals to thrive in one ecosystem?

I have both. One side of my Red Sea 750 is acros and the other side is all torches. But I do agree that acros have much more variety.

both are nice, but i like that there's much more variety with SPS compared to torches. nowadays every torch i see is green, yellow, or purple lol. and have a color combination of like 1-3 whereas with SPS one can have up to 4+ colors

edit: i do have planned on getting a torch this year @ RAPNY. either that or another type of bounce mushroom.
Hey, I looked at your build thread and saw werd you said you had gotten rid of bryopsis algae.. would you mind to tell me how you did that? I'm dealing with it right now and hate it .

I have 11 soon to be 12 torches . And just in the last couple months have started a new attempt to keep Acros. 12 Acros with more in about 3 weeks after SBB sale is over. If you include Frogspawn and Hammers in the equation that would basically double in favor of torch and cousins.

I think they both have a place in my tank. I kinda go through phases. Was on a quest for fuzzy millepora and got some great pieces from battle corals that grow well. Had a 24 k torch that croaked after a year while others are fine.
Gotta say I love my new Rasta torch. Please don’t die this year!

I
Both they are so wildly different one or the other seems like a weird qeustion
Begs the question why so many Reefers keep both in the same aquarium?

This was my first thought. Why are we comparing an SPS and an LPS? As a beginner my impression is also that the care level would be far different. Aren't acros far more difficult to keep than euphyllia.

You would get many experienced Reefers arguing that Euphyillia is just as difficult or MORE difficult than keeping Acros.
