I'm about to clean out my AIO chamber. Just wondering what at all these white strings back there?

I had the same problem in my old AIO that I took down. I thought it was some kind of bacterial bloom due to nutrient crash. What are your nutrient levels like?

My nutrients are not terrible. No3 14 po4 .06
I'm dosing ElimaNP and doing WC to stay ahead of the nutrients.

Did the nutrients crash at one point? I noticed mine to emerge when nutrients crashed on me. Maybe a coincidence…

No, nutrients never crashed. Last night I put my gravel vac back there and siphoned into my filter sock while stirring up the gunk. I couldn't believe how much gunk I siphoned up.

I think they are called foraminifera (forams). I have tons in my overflows. They are a sign of a healthy tank.

Forams are red right? Mine were white or almost clear looking.

Definitely not pineapple sponges. Those are, well, pineapple-shaped- ovals or other rounded bases with sort of a tuft on top. Not sure what these are, but likely no cause for concern.
