What can kill a hermit crab?
I introduced a scarlet 13 days ago.
As well as cerith, nerith and feather duster.

I let the bag float for the temperature, the s.g. of the bag/LFS was the same.
I put it on a rock. It moved etc...
but it had been motionless for 2-3 days now.

So, I lifted it and its body slid out of its shell.
Confused Shirley Maclaine GIF

I don't understand the problem.
My last scarlet lived 11 years.

The water is pretty stable, all the inhabitants are fine, Snail, cleaner shrimp etc...
I did a tank transfer last month. Everything went well.

Thing just happen ?
Should i investigate something special?

Maybe he left the shell for another shell
I wish it could be a molt etc...

But think you miss the part :
"So, I lifted it and its body slid out of its shell" :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
I could eat him for dinner.

Hermits are like cockroaches. It's hard to kill them little dudes off.
Yeah.

I'm used to seeing different molts flying into the flow.
but not falling directly out.

I thought they molted outside their shells and then returned to them.

Crabs are vulnerable when they molt so probably why they do it inside their house.

good point,
if i were a crab, that's what i would do.
but i would trow my old skin out !
although it is a good lure. indeed.

I won't get fooled again... probably. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Better question is what do you have in your tank? They can have a bad Molt or something got to it during its molt.

Royal gramma, *wrass H. leucoxanthus*, firefish,
pajama cardinal, tailspot blenny and diamond goby.
No other hermits/crab in tank

It would be surprising if it molted and then returned to its shell under the molt. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Maybe, it finished molting inside after being disturbed. (Like you say)

But idk, is very likely that they molt inside their shell. Seem logic :thinking-face:
