I have had a murderous neon dottiback for about 4 years. I recently upgraded to a 55 gallon and I am looking for a fish that can stand up for itself against an evil dottiback.

A Dwarf Angel, Clown Fish, Damsels are choices, but I agree your options are limited.

Why not re-home the dotty back? A fish that stands up to it means fighting which to me is never fun to watch but I hate seeing aggression and strive for peaceful tanks.
I have thought about re-homing. The only way I think I could catch her would be to remove all the rock work I have.

Find the Dottyback's bolt hole.
Next time you do a water change significantly lower the water level ( return water to the system when done) remove the rock the fish uses to hide in.
Proceed with water change.

While lowering the water level on a 55 can seems burdensome in the long run it's a lot better than the alternatives and often a successful way to remove a troublesome fish.

Every fish is an individual. So sorry your neon dottyback is a prick. I have mine in a 150 gallon with a maroon clown, 3 flame dwarf angels, yellow tang, tomini tang, blue hippo tang, and a radiant wrasse. All the fish its with are bigger. Maybe hard to do in a 55gallon. Might be best to trap that fish out.
