What coral is this?

What is this? It completely closes up when lights go off. Just wanna identify so I can put it in the right place...I've had it for about 2 months. Thank you

It’s a toadstool leather. Looks to be a Japanese deepwater type

Yes i thi k thats what they said...are there other variations it could be? I thought he said its like an overlord or mega or something like that...why do you say Japanese? Any other ideas? But definitely its a leather toadstool huh?

I have a big one and it looks like mine. Did they call it a Japanese willow? Sometimes they get labeled that too.

i have always seen them called green polyp toadstool. back in the day they were called Fiji Pink Green polyp.

Wow how do I get mine to grow like that? Maybe put it in a higher flow place? Seems to like the light (being higher up)

I have a power head blowing just over mine so the polyps kind of dance in the flow. I’ve had it for two years. It started off at 2 inches across. Once they get settled in and happy they grow fairly fast. My lights are about to turn off and it’s starting to close up for the night but you can see how much water movement I have mine in. Don’t mind the clowns… they are goobers

vivid aquariums recommends placing them in moderate flow and moderate to high lighting. to quote them in the "middle third" of the aquarium.

I bought mine as a neon green Japanese deepwater…. I really don’t care for the names, as long as it looks good to me that’s what matters. And yes, like @Michael71 mentioned, moderate flow and in the middle third of your tank seems to be the sweet spot. I have acros and other sps beside mine so they can take lots of light.

Im sorry but what does middle third mean? And got it, names dont matter as it seems some just make up names even at store but it is a leather toadstool huh? most likely Japanese...

What does middle third of tank mean?

Toadstools are fast growers. If it has good flow, good lighting, and your parameters are good. It will grow large fairly quickly.
