So my beautiful Blue Hippo Tang has an eye that is white, and is protruding on her left side. Yesterday she did not have it, but today when I got home from work I went to feed them, and her eye is white and looks like she has something covering her eye. I’m freaking out! My fish are not just fish, they’re my babies. My husband is one of those “well, if she dies I’ll never get another one again”, where I’m the “WELL, WHAT CAN WE DO TO GET HER BETTER?!” I would be devastated if she died. She has had it before, and has also had ich, but it cleared up within a day. (Without treatment). However, her eye looks far worse this time. Attached is a picture of her. PLEASE HELP MY DORY!!

We got that.
I’ve been the one taking care of the tank as best I can. It’s not perfect, but I’m doing what I can with what I have researched, finding this group, and “listening(although I don’t want to) to my husbands directions”. He doesn’t care about the survival of all my babies in the tank, but I’m the opposite. The tank is NOWHERE NEAR what I want it to look like. Water change was done Monday. But I have a lot more work to do. I just want all my babies to live! My Krystal, (fire fish), died while we were on vacation. I don’t think she was eating enough food because the person house sitting wasn’t making sure she had enough food after all the other fish Frenzy feed. I was devastated losing her. These fish know my voice, know when I’m coming down the stairs to see them, follow me around the tank, and are comfortable enough to where they don’t freak out or hide if I have to do something in the tank. They even come when I call their names. (It’s probably just responding to my voice, but I like to think they know their names lol). Anyway….sorry for rambling… I appreciate your help and any information or tips!

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

When just one eye is involved, and it happens suddenly, it is almost always a result of an injury. While this can become infected with bacteria, most cases heal with no treatment after a couple of weeks. Treatment would consist of moving the fish to a treatment tank and dosing with Erythromycin (Maracyn 1).

Signs of infection include: reddening of the eye, rapid breathing, fish not eating, or the other eye getting cloudy.
