Hello! I have a freshwater 35g I am looking to turn into a saltwater tank. I have a Fluval 407 canister filter and an average light. I am planning to buy a better light anyways. Is a canister filter set for a 75-100g enough or should I go with a sump? What else would I need to do to set up a 35g? Thinking of doing banggai Cardinalfish or some kind of community with clowns, dottybacks, etc. Thanks!

A canister will work, but coming from someone who just did all this I would go with a sump. I converted my planted tank to salt using a canister and had too many problems so I’m now running a sump and it’s the best choice I ever made. Def check out BRS 52 weeks of reefing and good luck!

I don't have a sump. In my experience a GOOD hob skimmer and carbon dosing, those are going to be your best friends.

I've been itching to use a canister filter with out any of those inserts and just fill it with live rock as a cryptic zone but I already have too much junk hanging off my tank.

Such a small fish world! Really like your profile pic, reminds me of my old orpingtons. Your cat/fish pic on the co op forum is hilarious!
