Hey all, not sure what this is exactly? Small dark stalks attacked to the rock, seem to be more firm and not flowing in the current like the algea I'm familiar with..

I am curious and no ID yet. You can try Google Lens. I was lucky with it once or twice.

Here's a mediocre close up, will try to get a better shot once the lights are fully on. Ain't nothing I dropped in there.

Also to note some areas of these rocks used to be submerged in the sand bed for 8 months or so until we just moved and re-scaped..

Best I could do quick with the Nikon.. I moved some debris off the left side. Pushed it around with tongs, it's firm but not brittle. Swipe across it, does not break and it bounces back into shape, does not move with the flow..

I’m on the road but my guess would be dirt if dead algae like bryopsis or fibers is or urchin
Pics are fuzzy to confirm

I’m off the road- have you tried pulling it up by hand to see it it’s rooted or resistive?

Haven't tried pulling it yet, but it didn't have any intention of popping off the rock when I ran large tongs through it.. seems pretty stuck/rooted to me..

Weird. Looks like someone stuck some fake eyelashes onto the rock or something to me haha. Never seen anything like that before.
Hang out at the bar until last call and you will...
