What is my BTA doing?

Well I woke up and checked on my Nem this morning, and now there are 2! It split during the night! Im guessing that what was happening. I'm working diligently to get the numbers down.

As mentioned above nems can split due to stress therefore doubling their chance for survival.
Get your water right, get some test equipment and start testing weekly so you can tweak you water rather than change 50% and in no time she will come back.
