Hey everybody , I am in the process of my 120g build. I purchased a brand new marineland tank and stand. I also purchased a custom wooden canopy from a member of another forum where will be mounting two reef breeders value fixtures. I wanted to know what is maximum weight the tank can support canopy wise?

If it is heavy enough that your are asking this...... ummmh.. maybe you better 2nd think it.

In general canopies are really light. They are usually painted thin sheet metal, plastic, or stainless steel... you don't want one that will rust. Also, you want one that can be removed easily. Aos it needs to be able to conduct or vent the heat away in the summer.

I cant get a pic atm BUT I have a 135 gal.. My canopy houses all lighting, has a shelf and supports 200 lb. It goes from tank top to ceiling. I used 4 2x4 and "levitated" the entire structure. It can slide forward or backward to enable access to tank.. I made it so that it has all light blocked.. If interested I could elaborate further and pics.. Karl

I had one that I made out of wood for a 120g that I had. I was also worried about the weight so I made it only half top and open back but had a couple of nice 2x2's for support. it also had 2 front doors and doors on both left and right sides.

My canopy on my 240 gallon tank is made from 3/4" plywood. I probably used about 3/4 of the sheet. I had 3 x 250 mh lighting and 4 x 160 watt vho suspended inside with all the ballasts stacked on top.
I would guess it was in excess of 100lbs.
