Hi
I have a 75 I just picked up. Planning on doing a FOWLR tank. I funny enough just threw out my old U tube overflows here about a month ago. I see there's different kinds and without you tubes and of course there's drilling out the back also. I haven't drilled out a tank in awhile , but im capable of doing that. Only reason that im leaning away from drilling out is I could get my tank setup now and add a HOB overflow later.
Either way curious what is the latest and greatest of either style.
thanks

I have used Fiji Cube overflows and am very happy with them. Almost exactly like Eshopps overflows. I looked at Synergy but didn't want two bulkheads on the glass and don't need three drains.

Really a personal preference. I run an internal overflow box with a herbie drain/overflow. Next tank I will probably go external just to mix it up and will give me more space to play with flow.

Drill it. Amazon for diamond hole saws are too easy. It is not like you have to find a magazine and wait 4-6 weeks on a COD deal to get one.

Otherwise, over-the-top overflows have not changed much. Gravity is still gravity and what was good 40 years ago is still today.

Figuring out the why: Has your primary reason(s) for keeping a saltwater aquarium changed over time?
