What is this and can it survive only 90% submerged?

I’m kinda new and this is kinda silly buuuuutt. I have no room and really like this macroalgae lol. Two questions, what kind is it? And, can it live with half in the back and then the middle hanging over into the tank ? Lol, the joys of 8 gallon tank and wanting everything. First pic is where I have it now, second is just for better ID. It’s grown a lot and I don’t wanna get rid of it lol

It's Red Dragon macro algae, my guess is it's probably Gracilaria curtisse but might be Halymenia floresia or Grateloupa filicina. It grows from a holdfast so cuttings might live while but likely won't take hold. As mentioned by PeterEde herbivores used to deal with nuisance algae will love it.

Update update, must be fully submerged, they eventually fail even if stay relatively moist. Rest of it is fine, but it can’t survive out at all

Dragon’s breath is generally Halymenia durvillei. Sometimes Gracilaria hayi is incorrectly called “Dragon’s breath,” though it does not fluoresce.

Oh how I wish every species had just one common name that wasn't used for any other species. :D Some websites may know the specific species they're selling but a simple search with "Dragon Tongue Algae" brings up imsges that are very dispsarit in appearance and probably also include species of the genus Grateloupia.
