What is this

Didn't really notice untill just recently that its growing out of our rock and when someone comes close by it closes up. Have no id what it could be. Any help would be great.

Are you talking about the little tube growing? If so that is a vermited snail. If you can take the rock out crush the tube and cover it with glue. If you can't at least break the tube... they are super invasive once they establish a big enough colony.

I understand it's a clam i guess I have never see one grow from a rock. Normally you would think of it independently.

I got a mollusk of some kind on some live rock once. Does it open and close like it’s alive?

Yup all the time. Anything goes near it and it closes up and opens back up in a min or so.

Maybe some kind of oyster. I recently found a tiny clam too. I started with all dry rock
