i mean seriously.....what is going on? its seems just way too easy for someone to go grab a handgun and go out and fire into a crowd now a days. i seem to be feeling less safe year after year....

Yea it's getting bad.....

i mean, aside from the obvious religous....social....and mental attributes that could be affecting these people......its just WAAAAAAY too easy for someone to wake up one day and be like, "i'm going to go buy a concealed handgun today and kill as many people as i can".

other countries (i.e. England & Australia....2 countries which banned guns) are laughing at our inability to control the violence that plagues our country.

honestly i think the best way to prevent things like that is to not talk/report about them. it only feeds the egos of these people who are generally losers, and their desire to be known and feared. i think being at war as a nation only promotes this sort of thing. violence is contagious.

I agree!

I also agree
Guns are not the problem. We just have a few crazies.
point is...
If guns are outlawed only outlaws will have them.

Kids need to be smacked around more these days, too. Some whiny little kid cries because someone picked on him and he had a bad day. Whahh. I was picked on all through elementary and some into high school (doesn't pay to make straight A's when you're young...). It builds character, which these whiny brat punks obviously lack. They've had it too easy, so when anythign at all blocks their path, it's time to melt and crumble. Hence work ethic in America... Anyway, enough sidetracking... The bad thing is that we can't do much to police it...

all the kids that commit suicide and go on killing sprees have no social skills what so ever. just take a look at their pics, they are so nerdy its scary. to actually even considering doing something like that you're a total *****.

We just need the same punishments as they do in Saudi. When I was over there in the Army and they don't play.If we handed down that type of punishment alot would think twice.

Of course the ones doing these shootings would not care because they are cowards and kill those who cannot defend their self and then they take their own life.

wow, very mature response.....you sound like you are about 12yrs old......MAX.

so would you rather have crazies who have easy access to easily concealed guns........or crazies who have virtually no access to easily concealed guns. b/c you can't get rid of the crazies, its just a fact of life.

ya know, they outlawed guns in both Australia and England......and the % of violent crimes committed with concealed weapons dropped like a ROCK. yet it didn't have any effect on people's right to defend themselves (with non lethal weapons or other forms of lethal weapons), and people's right to go hunting.

( Not true) I own 6 and never shoot anyone. ( yet)
I know, I know . . . so do many family members and friends of mine (you know, "Guns don't kill people, people do). My comment was more in the vein of handguns are not hunting weapons, they're either for "fun" or crime.

On a somewhat realted note, why does anyone need to have access to assault rifles? Why they let the law that banned them expire is beyond my comprehension.

But alas, some things will never change.

well, for obvious reasons....defending against terrorism (ya know, just in case Al Queda invades your neighborhood), communists, reincarnated TuPac, and super animals.

Gotta love Family Guy and gotta watch out for those super animals:D.

Remember the days when all we had to worry about were Bartles and James sitting on the front porch getting plastered or getting hit in the head by a falling, colorful mushroom. dang Bowser... A lot of things sensationalize these kinds of things and weak people think they have an answer to impudence with violence...

surfn....do you know how easy it is to smuggle guns across the border from Mexico or Canada? You should see how many people alone get smuggled across the border, then from there we have drugs, automatic rifles, grenades etc..
Neither one of these places you mentioned has the border problems that we do.

If we made guns illegal in the US, again only the criminals would have them. In my opinion if I put myself in a criminals shoes this would be basically a free for all knowing that when you break into someones house they are at best bringing a knife to a gun battle.

so what is your solution? fight gun violence with more guns? arm every man, women and child in the U.S.? its simple statistics......the more and more people who have guns.....the more and more likely one of them will snap....and use it in a meaningless act of aggression. so instead of 1 idiot with a gun.....you have dozens in a blazing gun battle in the middle of a mall or a classroom. i'm not exactly for banning ALL guns......but its way too easy for someone to "legally" purchase a concealed weapon or even an automatic weapon. the laws are slack.....IMO its easier to purchase a gun at a gun show in my state than it is to find an illegal and unregistered one. even if concealed hand guns were MUCH harder to obtain than rifles it would make a difference.....and one of these crazies could only obtain a rifle legally while acting on impulse in a few days....do you think they would make it far before they walked clear across a campus or parking lot and into a building or mall and not be seen carrying a huge weapon?

The second amendment is the only thing keeping you free.....If you want to talk statistics a gun owner is far less likely to commit a crime, they are usually higher educated and have a reasonably better paying job. I can get the statistics if you want.....

How many of the 26,000 gun laws on the books today apply to the criminal? Anybody wanna venture a guess? Most states it is illegal to own a fully automatic rifle or handgun. Some state do allow this that is true but they are the exception then the rule.

As far as "assault rifles" go the typical deer rifle is far more powerful then any AK-47, Ar-15 and many more "assault rifles" that you talking about. The actual purpose for the rifle or handgun is for protection from anyone who wishes to do you harm, wither it be a thug invading your home or your government trying to oppress the people to make a police state.

As far as concealed weapons goes the state of Michigan 2 years ago relaxed the laws on that because if you didn't have a friend or a buddy with the criminal justice system or own a business you couldn't get one. Yet the state would recognize anybody that moved into the state from another state that had one, they would honor it, yet denied their own citizens the right......

Every paper in the state cried it will be the wild west and vigilantes will run in the streets. All crap to this day there have been only 21 people that have had there concealed carry permits either revoked or suspended due to any violations. Not one of them was due to a violent act. The Kalamazoo Gazette(Home city paper) had to come out and say that they were wrong and the concealed carry law wasn't what they said it would be.....In fact in every local across the nation that has passed the conceal carry law crime has went down. Why? Because the last thing a criminal wants to do is shed his own blood. As far as these kids shooting they are breaking the law by having the gun in their possession as they are not the registered owners. Any of the "assault rifles" it is against federal law to loan out to some one unless accompanied by the registered owner. You can't just go to walmart and by a Ak-47 or any other assault rifle without a criminal background check which also checks for your medical records as well. There have been issues like in Virgina with that kid that went into VT. He should have never got the guns in the first place, but when the judge recommended the kid go see a shrink he made it volunteer instead of mandatory. If it would have been mandatory it would have shown up on the back ground check and he would have never got the Permit to purchase right.

I can get you the Michigan state fire arms laws and the Federal firearms laws that any FFL licensee has to have before the government will allow you to get a FFL license . Some of the laws would blow your mind, like for example IF you are buying a gun to commit a criminal act and you have a criminal background it is your 5Th amendment right to not incriminate yourself on the Permit to purchase. They still have to sell you the gun and run the background check without the information.....But, what happens is if the State law is more restrictive then that is the law that is applied over the federal law. Which most states say that if you don't completely fill out the permit to purchase and subject yourself to the background check then you cannot buy a gun.

For example I got handgun for my graduation present cause that is what I wanted, Federal law says I can go into any dealer and purchase one cause I was 18. The State of Michigan says I have to be 21 to buy one from a dealer so I couldn't have it, so my Father bought it and then did what is called a straw purchase cause it isn't against either federal or state law for me to by one off a privet person at the age of 18. That is just an example of how the State law was more restrictive and that was the one that applied.

WoW! What a topic surfin! I applaude you for bringing it to this forum as I too am amazed at the frequency of these occurances. I'll have to stew on my responce. Being a gun advocate and former owner of several "banned" or "outlawed" weapons I'll need to think before I respond. Great topic though a bit odd on the fish forum!!

And yes bObby1.....you are an idiot

Look there is a reason these types of topics are not discussed and one being because people flame each other. Let's not get personal....Thanks.
