Just looking for personal preferences here, regarding specimens that you actually owned.

I'm thinking about tying a 70ish gallon tank into my 400 system for an anemone and clowns etc.
All I have seen is pictures on line, so I would like to hear from experienced people how they enjoyed living with particular colors, if that makes sense.

Actually, I did witness Anthony Calfo slice a red one in half at a frag swap about 15 years ago, but don't think that counts. :)

For gigantea, my favorite color is green, because the color is present through most of the tentacles. With the blue and purple ones, the color is only at the tip. That said, for a display tank, I'd go with either a blue or a purple because both of those colors are rare in any other type of coral you'll have in the tank (unless you have a lot of blue or purple SPS). A green gig looks a lot like GSP in a display tank!

For a haddoni, red is my favorite, followed by blue and purple, then neon green. They all look nice in a display because they're typically in the sandbed which is usually bright white, so all of the colors pop more.

I would skip mertensii altogether. Every since large specimen I've seen was a dull brown. They are brighter when small (under 6") but once they grow, they lose most of the color.

Regarding slicing them, anyone with a sharp object can do it. It's a matter of getting it to survive, which almost NO ONE has been able to do.

Thank you- just the kind of info I was looking for.

Part of the reason I made this thread is because I half remembered reading something about people liking green gigantea but I couldn't recall the reasoning.
