I'd like to make the inside of my stand as waterproof as possible just in case anything leaks inside it will be able to hold some water. I want to seal the edges with silicone and also paint the inside with something waterproof. What kind of paint do you recommend to use inside the stand that I can get at lowes?

The Kilz primer would need to be topcoated. Precat epoxy from Sherwin Williams would work. If you want to use silicone in the corners you will need to prime the silicone with oil primer because latex wont stick to it. I agree the Pond Shield would be the best and similar in cost by the time you buy a primer and good waterproof paint. Pond Shield is self priming. 1 kit with the 2 quarts will be enough for multiple coats on the inside most stands

I layed down a few coats of Red Guard followed by white Killz. It has held up really well and is waterproof. The Red Guard was only applied to the bottom three inches of the stand.

Bare Red Guard on top. White Killz layed over the Red Guard inside the stand (took a few coats to cover everything as you can see some areas still showing through).

Today (15 months later); it has held up fantastic.

I had the same question a few months ago. I used Flex Seal white on my white stand. I painted the inside base up to where the doors open which is about 4 inches. It creates a rubber seal all the way around. BUT be aware this stuff is potent. Paint it in your garage and let it sit for awhile. Mine was outside for two weeks or more while I was assembling and buying parts. Flex Seal comes in quart cans. Just buy a cheap brush as you will throw it away after you're done. It's super thick as well. Be patient. I felt like I was painting with caramel. lol. I picked mine up a Lowes.

Oh yea, for what it's worth, the Red Guard has almost no smell at all.

Didn't use paint on the inside of my stand. I used McKlusky Man-O-War Marine Spar Varnish. Caulked edges with pure GE Silicone Clear. Works on boats for generations as waterproof and durable coating and sealant.
