What refugium light do you use?

Hello,

I was just curious what refugium light everyone uses.

I am wondering why mine is not able to really grow chaeto. I have the Tunze 10k Waterproof one.

I have this light on from 3pm to 730am....

Everyone I have read and heard from said this should be growing chaeto like crazy??

Nitrates are 30ppm
phos is around 0.4

My chaeto just sits it doesnt tumble but it does appear to be growing some GHA not a ton though.

I use this one. I think adding some red with the blue spectrum is better for Chaeto

No they make an adapter for it so plugs in like a normal light. I use a wifi outlet to run it 12 on 12 off on an app. What's nice it mounts right above the water so no light spill and nuisance algae.

I use a viparspectra that is mostly sold for marijuana growing but it grows chaeto really well too.

I put a cheap Amazon power head in with my chaeto and it’s doing great.

I also went cheap with an IM Grow light. Had good reviews and was small enough.

Chaeto requires more than just the right light spectrum to grow. Some people overlook the need for iron.

Do you have any issues with using the powerhead in your refugium with it being plugged up by chaeto? I am considering adding a mp10 to my refugium to try to keep the chaeto moving. I have to manually turn mine every few days which is annoying.

I did but I put a foam guard around it and it gets a little but not enough to stop it.

I have a gen 3 radion xr30 could u send me ur light schedule for ur fuge? I'm thinking about using mine to grow chaeto. Its just collecting dust right now. Figured I could use it.

I doubt your light is the issue. People grow chaeto with all kinds of lights. Even super cheap lights not made for that purpose.

I had trouble growing chaeto at first as well. Somebody suggested I turn the light on around the clock, and start dosing chaetogrow. Boom. Tons of growth.

Give that a try. It’s worth a shot, and as long as your nutrients don’t bottom out, it won’t hurt anything.

That’s the one I use and my chaeto grows fast. It’s on 12 hours a day, during the night.

I have the same light as yours, and my Chaeto grows like crazy.
Similar parameters to you also.
Do you dose Trace elements? I dose Coral Essentials Alk + Trace, so that could potentially be helping (have read that Chaeto consumes your trace)

Edit - My Light is also on 24hrs a day.
