Setting up a new SPS tank, been keeping SPS forever. I haven't had to dip a coral in years. Now that I have a new setup. What should I be doing in 2026? In the past I used a 2 step process of Bayer and then Interceptor and my tank was pest free for 10+ years, and I never lost a frag to a dip. Now I can't get Bayer in my area and my Interceptor pills are like 15 years old, lol.

Everyone is using Potassium Chloride now?: 1 teaspoon per 500ml and a 10 minute dip? Is that it? Anything else I need to do? I have a hard time telling myself that we didn't need to be dipping with such exotic chemicals all those years and we could have just used KCl.

Help me out.

Ive been using this as a replacement for Bayer. I get it at home Depot.

I can't get that in New York. This is what we are allowed here. The active ingredient is not the same. :-(

haven’t dipped once lol. I shine strong white light on it and look for the common pests visually.

I'm not certain how much control your state has, but here in California I have found that many things like this that are forbidden by my state can be mailed to me from out of state vendors. Even antibiotics, although the availability of this route has been slowly getting more difficult to acquire many things as the government slowly increases the filters on commerce and shipping.

Otherwise, KCL is a good dip for sure.

Amongst SPS folks it seems like the most popular is to dip with KCl. If you can also do a round of Interceptor that covers more bases but the med can be hard to get ahold of.

It seems like the standard 10 minute KCl dip may not handle black bugs (they hide the polyps for the entire duration) so people are now experimenting with half dose of KCl dip held for 3-4 hours.

My current protocol is 10 minute KCl dip once a week for six weeks. I also run Interceptor on my tank but have not settled on a protocol.

Thanks everyone, I'll pick up some KCl in the meantime and also get one of my out of state friends to pick up some BioAdvanced for me.
