Perhaps you could ask to see the invoice from their wholesaler lol. Post some more pics in 6 months and we'll see what it looks like then. There are a lot of tangs that are similar when they are that size. To be honest a duss is such a rare fish there's not too many of us that could really ID one.

Your tang is not an Acanthurus dussumieri, it’s an bristle tooth tang.
Under this lighting its difficult to give certainty on the species. I would say Ctenochaetus striatus.

I would find it quite worrisome if my lfs couldn’t tell the difference between an Acanthurus species and a Ctenochaetus (bristle tooth) species...

I was thinking it did resemble a blue eyed kole tang but I blew that one totally, it's what I get for surfing R2R past midnight :sleeping-face:. You are 100% correct, I studied the OPs photo some more and the shape of the fins are wrong for an Acanthurus. Good eye ReneReef!

Also the shape of the fore head helps.
Its quite strait on bristle tooth tangs.
A dussumieri has a round fore head.

P.S. I found out recently that late at night I start mixing up GFO and GAC…

Would be helpful if we could see it under white light. I have great success taking cell phone pics with a clip on filter, I think mines an orphek, it filters out the blue.

There’s also a possibility that it could be an orange stripe, ctenochaetus striatus, going through a transition to adult coloration. I could be wrong but I’m basing it on the first pics posted that show a white tail fin & darker anal fins. Its colors will definitely improve once settled in & fed properly. The tang does look a bit bit, just a tad thin & once it fatten up, its true colors will pop.

Big chance it is pale due to stress and still getting used to its new surroundings.

My money is still on striatus.
Maybe cyanocheilus.

Binotatus has very characteristic blue eyes. This fish does not have those.
