What type of Algae?!

Consider setting up an algae turf scrubber (ATS). It will get rid of that along with hair and other algae. An ATS should be standard equipment with any system.

An ats is great but typically not the fix id recommend to a new reefer... Why not something simpler like running some gfo or Phosguard to get the phosphate down and pull silicates from the water???

I use chemi pure elite, but that's been running for about 5 days

Chemipure elite has such a tiny amount of gfo in it, not nearly enough to put a dent in a phosphate number that high. You need to run the manufacturer recommended amount of gfo or Phosguard for your water volume changed out every 3-5 days until you get that number down.

Also, I would consider ditching the chemipure all together and get some better carbon like rox 0.8 so you can really strip some organics out of the water. With a slime problem that bad you have a sever nutrient imbalance.

Okay will look into gfo and I do a water change about once a week

An ATS is the best way to naturally keep algae in check. I will never go back to phosban or the other binding agents.

Do you have a sump? If so, what size?

Can you see this it is in the sale forum? https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/algae-turf-scrubber-ats.242790/

*I am not trying to sell you an ATS.

Yes, I do have a sump. I have a 75 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump. Filter sock for the overflow, reef octopus 150 skimmer, a small refugium, and a 800 gph return pump.

Tank just going through its new stages. You could reduce the light cycle to 4 hours a day with only blues and get a few clean up crew members. Mexican turbo snails cleaned mine over night. They will eat the diatoms but not the cyano. Diatoms will come back if you do water change too much. They feed off the silicates. So cut back on the amount you change every time or perform water change every 2 weeks. Cyano tend too grow in areas of poor circulation also; so you could also try moving the angle of the returns. Hope this helps. Keep us posted

Will do. I have two circulation pumps that are 800gph on each side. I'm looking in to another one, maybe an MP40, but where would I place it?

Place it on back glass so it pushes the water against the front wall breaking up your current water flow direction

I agree each side and back wall is wonderful powerhead placement, creates some nice random flow. I achieve this with a powerhead on each side and an aqua clear HOB on the back wall.

Great idea I may try the hob idea

Works well. Also, I loaded it full of marine pure spheres so it serves 2 purposes now!
