been looking into getting a new skimmer and have whittled it down to the avast diy skimmer or the reef octopus sro 2000, cost on the 2000 skimmer is 350 shipped, and if i was to get the avast I was going to match it with the same bubble blaster pump that is on the sro 2000, which would run the cost to roughly $365, I know how comparing skimmers goes everybody has their favorites, was just wanting some input to make up my mind. Thanks

I would buy the SRO 2000. I dont know much about avast. I am sure they have good products but something about a DIY skimmer for the same price as a name brand skimmer throws me off. Your also talking to a guy that just bought a SRO3000.... so you can look at that as me being biased or just doing some research and finding that they are excellent skimmers for the price.

You talk with anyone that has used the Avast DIY on a similar sized tank to yours?

I've just read some good things about the avast skimmers, but it sure is tough not to buy the sro 2000 for a little price(after purchasing bubble blaster pump for avast) and not have to put it together. The avast looks a little more of a cone shaped body than the sro 2000

i haven't ran a sro 2000 but i do run the avast.... here is some pitch black nog!!!!! even got a shot with the sun behind it... great little skimmer and fun to build....

which pump do you run your avast on? I was thinking of geting the bubble blaster 2000 if i get one. I checked with the guys at avast and they thought that would be a good fit. the only problem I have then is i'm paying more for the avast diy than the already built sro 2000, i'm sure both are fine skimmers need to just make up my mind.

Running a sicce psk2500 modded volute.... All the mod does is keep the rotational issues at bay... It pulls the same air as the stock one avast offers with the kit...
