These tiny worms actively wiggle around above the sand and seem to have formed a tiny mound with a colony. I don't think they are harmful, but kind of cool. Any idea what they are?

spaghetti worm ?
Looking up pictures of spaghetti worms led me to it (I think). A Medusa worm. It sounds like it needs to go. If something tries to eat it, it will release powerful toxins that can kill things. Between this and the (probable) baby bobbit worms I am starting to have a bad day.

It's odd. When I look it up I see exactly what you mean. Totally different. I also see these being called medusa. It looks like they are calling bright red spaghetti worms medusas. Whatever it is, it's gone now.
