When did GFO hit the scene?

Getting back into the hobby after exiting in 2002 or so. When abouts did GFO become common? Just curious.

I remember it commonly used in the late 2000s. Someone that jumped in before then might have earlier input. I think GFO was one of the first things I'd actually ordered from BRS around then.

I don't have an exact date either, but it seems like it's been around for a couple decades.

I just find it interesting because back around 2001 or so, it definitely wasn't common in my area of southeast michigan. And from what I gather, it's very effective at controlling phosphate.
