that not all of us "like" or support facebook????????????????????

i know i'm not the only one that feels this way, so please voice your opinion to our sponsors..........

Im not on facebook eather and do not care for social media. what happened to going to a friends and talking face to face

same here no facebook

They are promoting a new aspect of their business. While you don't use it, millions and millions of others do. That's like complaining that a store is having a sale on their brand Mac and cheese but you only eat kraft. Its your choice lol

I don't use facebook for updating everything going on in my life.I just use it to help support friends, family, websites and sponsors.I understand why sponsors use facebook and I don't mind supporting them at all.It takes about 1 minute to sign up and like there page

I agree I have no spare time for any new addictions .my current ones keep my to busy enough.so no facebook for me
And I agree it is annoying vendors trying to force me onto facebook
Now I await someone telling me I don't have to join facebook

I don't even look at contest threads anymore. I've watched people check there phones every 3 minutes for Facebook. No thank you.

I totally understand the use by vendors to promote their business and reach out, but it just bums me out that I can't enter any contests that have the like their page requirement.

Having to like a Facebook page wouldn't stop me from entering a contest lol its to quick and easy to do even if you have never been on facebook before

I must say that I too was a anti Facebook type of guy but when we opened up our shop it was a must. It has turned out to be a pretty fun community and being that we have only been on Facebook for a short time I have met so many new hobbyist and experts and have learned so much more in that short period of time. This thread is basically telling vendors to limit their business just cause some hobbyist don't support Facebook? That's just ridiculous. Why limit our knowledge and the possibilities to meet other folks that have this hobby in common? By the way, R2R is a Facebook supporter also:wink:

I'm not saying to limit yourselves, I was just stating that it bums me out to see liking a Facebook page as a requirement.

I will not create a Facebook just to be eligible for contests on here. I'll rather sign up for an email list or something. Maybe a couple of different options for that particular requirement would work. I know the percentage of people who don't use Facebook is pretty small.

I do find this forum to be a great place to meet fellow reefers though. Actually I did a trade with someone and talk to him daily about reefing, so I'd say I made at least one friend through r2r. Not many reefers in my area lol.

Facebook and social media as a whole is something that people today can live without but it is like email was years ago. No one thought they needed email either, but now it is so common you can ask someone for their email address and everyone has one. It is evolution of the internet and the ways people communicate.

I have a Facebook page, but I am not an annoying person who posts all of their meals, gripes, political views. and other random crap. I post photos of my kids to share with family and also use it to stay in touch with those who are too simple minded to realize that Facebook Messaging is no different than email...

I personally have no issues with the Facebook requirement as it is a way for sponsors to increase awareness of their brand and what they have to offer. It is a simple requirement that they hope will in turn draw more people to their site and Reef2Reef. Please understand that the purpose for the sponsors sticking behind these contests is not just to give away free stuff. They get something out of it as well whether that is site traffic or advertising. Otherwise why would they give us free stuff?

+1.

I completely understand their desire to advertise their products to new people however even if I had FB none of my friends or family keep reef tanks so it would just be spam to them. Now they don't even reach me with their advertising attempts because I too don't even bother to look at the contest anymore. All inclusive contests will get more attention to their products. I would think targeting 100% of the r2r members would be more beneficial than trying to reach that small percentage of FB friends that aren't serious enough in the hobby to be on r2r already or spend money on their products in the future. While they are trying to pick up a handful of non r2r members they are passing over r2r members that do spend lots of $$$ in this hobby. It must be working for them though as they keep doing it.

Just like it is your prerogative to use FB or not(your personal decision), it is the prerogative of the sponser to make their own rules for contests (their business decision). Personally, I look at the contests and if there are a lot of steps to enter, I just pass on it. Nothing lost.

I used to have a fb account. I quickly grew tired of the privacy invasion, data mining, and sheer amount of garbage that it generated. Once I deactivated the account, it still took me months to get rid of the pest emails that kept coming from fb and their advertisers. I will not reopen that can of worms just to participate in a contest, live sale, giveaway, or any other form of advertising from a sponsor. I have absolutely no wish to rejoin a site that has proven time and again that they have no respect for boundaries, personal or otherwise. The privacy settings on fb are a joke, since the ptb that run fb can, and will, change the privacy policy at their whim. I don't have the time to constantly battle fb to keep my private life private.

Sponsors can do what they like, but I refuse to have fb crammed down my throat. I will happily spend my money elsewhere.

I agree, I have no use for Facebook and I'm disappointed to see "like us on Facebook" as a requirement to enter a contest.

I've learned to avoid all the Contest pages, I used to click to see what you win and what you had to do.. But I know everything is linked through FB now so I just ignore them. Better for the FB users because it leaves a good chunk of us outside the contests.

I agree that it stinks to not be able to enter a contest because you are not on facebook. At the same time I completely understand the use of it for supporting business and so forth. It would be nice if contest would include another option for those of us that may not have facebook but otherwise "like" and support vendors.

I understand as well, and I agree they should do something for the non-FB users. I don't see that day coming anytime soon. I will just continue to buy and pay for everything:tongue:

I have had Facebook for yours and I don't think I have ever received a email from Facebook or a sponsor.
