My little sohal is under an inch (Im so excited about him!!!). I currently have him in my QT tank. I was wondering how fast these guys grow. I dont want to add him to the DT that small, Im afraid one of the eels would eat him or the other bigger fish would bully him. Any advice?

Dyslexic, when to add a shoal?

I don’t have any idea. :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

LOL Im actually dyslexic too so I had to go back and make sure I actually said sohal lol

But, feed the eels and other fish well the day before so they are not looking for a meal when the morsel goes in. I would make sure that the Sohal is eating well and fat before adding him in with bigger fish.

Oh for sure I just didnt know if it would be best to wait until he was like 4 inches for example. Im just so paranoid about him cause he is the most expensive fish and I saved up a lot for him so I dont wanna mess anything up and lose him!

They grow moderate, will eat aggressively as they gain size and I will assure you, they will be worse in attitude than a powder blue which we often find adorable at first. Likely one of the most striking of tangs but with the worst attitude in time.

Yeah Im prepared for that, he is my final fish and I wont be adding anything after him. I hope he isnt a murderous fish because he is so beautiful! I also hope getting him as small as he is helps because he is without a doubt the smallest fish in there right now

Well he actually died this morning. No idea why. The two clowns he was in with (Ive had them a couple months) are completely fine, no sigh of illness and super energetic. Is it possible this is also cyanide capture? Im just at a loss. He was completely fine a few hours ago.

These are not in origin of cyanide region such as Philippines and Sri Lanka but always possible. Could have also had unnoticeable issue but often hard to determine visually. Sorry to hear

Sorry to hear that.
From fine to dead in 2 hours?
Maybe clown/s took him out?

Super challenging fish.

They were wayyy smaller than him. Both are juveniles, my big one just changed to female a few weeks ago, both under an inch. No torn fins or bites anything on the sohal. Just dead which is why Im so confused. Dude ate like a champ and was super active when I went to bed, saw him when I came down in the middle of the night then just dead when I got up

Size reference for the clowns. Excuse my dirty glass! Tiny little clowns

On the plus side my new hippo tang is doing so well! Big boy from a tank breakdown. Got a heck of a deal on him about 8 or 9 inches! And he has a cute little blemish on him. (Sohal was not in this tank with them due to its size)

Well shoot, that sucks. I was looking forward to following the little guys progress.
I lost my hippo of 5+ years last week. I noticed it didn't come out to eat and found it dead in the rocks. Was fine the night before. Part of the hobby I suppose :crying-face:

Awe Im sorry about your hippo :( it seems rare that people have those guys that long! And me too. The LFS owner is offering me half credit even though it was out of his policy so thats really nice of him.

He values his customers. Those are the LFS you want to support. Fortunaly I have a lfs like that. They are becoming few and far between.
How long was it in the store? Just thinking of you want to try again maybe ask him to hold the fish for a week or so and you can watch it. Mine has no problem doing that.

They got him i. That week. And he doesnt hold fish unless you pay for them already. I have another LFS that will hold fish but they are so expensive now and dont really get any exotic fish like that. Only tangs Ive ever seen them have were blue hippos and bristletooths.
