I have a mandarin orange Zoa frag (bought with 15 polyps probably 20 now, month old or so) with some red hair algae on it. Tank doesn’t have red hair but this frag does.

1) is it safe to remove frag from tank and take tweezers to the red hair algae
2) is above recommended
3) will I die from play toxin poisoning?

This is a copy and paste: “I’m going to say the same thing I tell everyone who is worried about it. There are a million scenarios/things that can kill us daily just by getting in the car we take a risk. And coral is at the very bottom of the list of things that are likely to kill you. Just don’t go boiling or eating rocks/coral and if you ever frag them safety measures have to be taken! Things like wearing gloves while handing them. And yes it’s safe hydrogen peroxide is used as a dip for all types of corals and algae.” Here’s a good article on dipping zoanthids: https://aqualifehub.com/how-and-why-to-dip-your-zoanthid-in-hydrogen-peroxide/

So I did the hydrogen peroxide, 5 mL at a time, never did see any bubbles. Algae is a lot less, but I am thinking it’s going to be a rinse and repeat a few times to knock all the hair off. Zoas open and happy this morning despite the remaining algae

Be patient. Zoas often take a few days to open fully after peroxide treatment. I typically use 1 part 3% peroxide to 4 parts tank water for 15 minutes and have not killed any zoas yet.

Man I love this hobby. Happy frag of mandarins this morning, the algae is gone. Flow must have knocked it off, or the tang picked at it a bit. Either way it’s happy again. Thanks for the help!!
