When water pumps RUST!!

I was looking around my shop for a decent pump to set up another system... Found an Eco Plus water pump covered in dust in a box of old pumps. Started cleaning it when I notice the back has that rust hue coming out of the back cover... Took a screwdriver to it and this is what I found...


Pretty horrifying honestly, especially how close I was to just plugging it in and letting it run..
