If this should go in the beginner section admins can move it, but I’m just wondering if anybody has a go to guide for new reefkeepers?

I’ve heard of the 52 weeks, but have also been super impressed with Reef Rookies by Logan.

Helped me learn how to culture my own phyto and pods, and haven’t looked back!

He phrases things really simply and gives nice walkthroughs for all things beginner. Wondering what other resources and recommendations people give, or if Logan is popular with others too?

I like this guide:

And this is a newer, beginner series from BRSTV that I like that's a little easier to digest than the original 52 Weeks:

First I would stress patience and restraint. Saltwater is expensive, diverse, and not a typical cat/dog. One, the LFS/Online retail will gladly relieve you of that C-note. Two, when frustration sets in, it is hard to re-home a tank. Three, every aquarist has an opinion right and wrong.

So where do you began, if you have one lend a 20 gal system. Nothing fancy, 20 gal. HOT filter, 50 wt heater, little powerhead, simple Light. Something to teach ropes, routine, repeat.

Why so basic, well we learn the basics. What and how long cycling takes. Routines like testing, topping of fresh water. Changing/mixing Saltwater. Observing the little ecospheres, and learning just how diverse that sphere can be. Introducing fish, inverts, simple corals(mushrooms) Finally simple guidance. (Yes, that powder blue is beautiful, but… No I don’t think buying that clam would be a good idea.)

Then after a time,(3 months?) ( Hey I think i am going to need my quarantine back.) Maybe my new protégé is ready to commit to that first system and begin their journey into the fascinating life in our shallow tropical waters.

I would start by directing them to...

... their insurance company to make sure they cover saltwater damages and broken glass even when caused by gross negligence.

... a structural engineer to make sure they can actually place a tank where they want to.

... the electric company to negotiate a bulk rate for the power their tank will eat up (or switch electricity provider if possible for better prices).

... the job center so they can an extra job for afford the hobby.

... a local plumber because sooner or later there will be water where it shouldn't be.

... if married, a divorce lawyer just to get ahead of the conversation once their partner finds out what the hobby costs.

And if they still want a tank after that, you can give them a good book on the hobby or a tutorial series.

(Some of these suggestions are for funsies, others are actually serious. It's on you to decide which ones have to be taken seriously)

check out Paul B. right here on the forums. This is one of the best resources I can point you towards. Pretty sure after 47 years Paul has forgotten more about reefing than I will ever know.
