2007-2013 Marine Corps myself. Should be getting the official discharge this month after 2 years IRR. 6 years was enough for me, knew that going in. Best and most rewarding decision I've ever made, craziest decision for sure. And I'd do it again if I had to go back in time. Not everyone gets to these days but I was lucky enough and hit the timing just right to get a nice small tour of the world.

Got out a Corporal and was 0481 Landing Support Specialist

I did a tour in Iraq at the end of 2009, I was about 12 hours from doing one in Afghanistan leaving directly from Iraq but they cut down the numbers at the last minute and I was left off that one. Which worked out I guess as I came back home in time for Christmas and then went to work helping put some of the first, or at least on a widescale, M-ATVs into the field for you grunts. Loaded them up at Charleston AFB and shipped them directly to Afghanistan. Was at TQ and Al Asad when in Iraq with a few short trips to Ramadi.

Side note, did anyone else find Iraq nicer than Kuwait? I hated Kuwait.

And I agree about the politics. I got out partly due to the whole budget cuts and unit shuffling. When they told me I had to change my MOS I said thanks, but I'll just ride out the last few months and be on my way.

I went to TQ and Alasad on various trips but was out of Ramadi with RCT6 in 09'.But I found Iraq to be nicer as well ironically lol
That whole retrograde was a SOB wasn't it?!?!
