Whichever brand of carbon you use, you might find that the flow rate through the carbon has a lot to do with its effectiveness.

If you try some new brands and are still not happy, you may consider increasing the flow through the carbon. I had the BRS with two chambers and suspected that the flow I ran for the GFO was not enough to use the carbon effectively.

I've heard of regeneration of activated carbon for large scale industrial facilities via large furnaces and fluid flow. Not sure if this is the best method, but I usually boil mine for a while, rinse, strain, then back into the system. You can visibly see the left over detritus and particulate matter.
