Which inland do you own or use????

I bought a db100 before I found out about the dfs100 lol... After reading for hours most say there identical but the dfs has a higher price tag because it's supposedly used for coral fragging etc... I'm curious who has what I don't really know if there is any difference since I don't own the dfs my self lol...Does any one own both???

Person I am getting mine from says they are a lot different. I don't think they are. I would like to know because I only think the difference is the plate you cut on(plastic vs. aluminum) and maybe a few screws being plastic. Would like to hear from someone who knows.

troy, i just looked up on the site and they are not the same in any aspect, just on the looks... the blade that comes on the db100 is for cutting wood,fiberglass, plastic, etc. also the work surface is made of aluminum. the dfs100 reef-keeper has a special blade for aquariums and also the work surface is made out of plastic. i believe its made to last longer with the exposure to saltwater... here is a link to their site if you need any info: Hobby Saws - Manufacturing the World's Finest Craftworking Tools and Supplies since 1978

i've also seen the dfs100 in person and it looks like it could last for a lifetime, the motor is separated from were the water will make any contact and its almost impossible to get wet.

I think it's more marketing than anything myself.. You know how it is any thing developed or used in this hobby gets a bigger price tag!!! The aluminum table ain't gonna hurt anything it's better than the plastic one IMHO... If it were a issue I'm a acrylic guy and can whip that out in minutes lol..

Nah mine came with the same diamond blade the other one does to the best Of my knowledge... The regular db100 like I have is for stain glass people to cut glass etc it has a diamond blade ...

true it could be... but its not like if the difference between them in price is that big, the retail price showed on the page has only a 10$ difference. i think it's worth it to go ahead and buy the reef keeper one. thats just how i see it.

The difference between a DB-100 and a DFS-100

The cutting platform on the DB-100 is metal and on the DFS-100 it is plastic (non-corrosive)

The screws for the from access cover and screws on the drip guide of the DB-100 are metal and on the DFS-100 they are plastic

The Bladesert on the two are different.

Thats all the difference between the two saws. Basically plastic parts replaced metal parts for more protection against corrosion caused by saltwater.

In my option, not worth the extra cash none whatsoever.

reefpets has the answer-it's just plastic pieces wherever possible to minimize the damage of corrosion. Blades are still identical however as there's no good option for replacing the metal band (as of yet....)

If I was buying one for home use, I'd probably buy the reef model as the infrequent use would leave the saw more open to corrosion issues. If I was purchasing for a shop (or a hobbyist making tons of frags) the regular version would probably work just fine, considering constant use would theoretically come with more often cleaning and care.

From what I've been told and read I believe you are right. Even the diamond blades are the same on both models. The only justification for the higher price might be the warranty, as I've read that inland won't warranty db100 if it appears to have been used with saltwater.

I personally got the speedster xl, and plan to swap out the screws for stainless or nylon if they start to rust, other than that they should last awhile if kept up.

I think honestly both will last for the same amount of time if you take Care of it and clean it regularly...I have spent thousands apon thousands on tools and machienes it's my bread and butter so I take care of my stuff..;) I'll let you know if I ever run across a problem with mine the db100...

I gotta say the Diamond Laser Speedster XL is hands down the best saw I've ever used for coral fragging....I've burned through so many Inland band saws it ain't even funny

The other difference is in the warranty. While the DFS is warrantied for fragging corals, it's only a 90 day warranty, as apposed to the DBS which carries a 1 year warranty, but fragging corals voids that warranty.

Interestingly, I purchased a DBS, about 4 months ago. It came with a plastic deck. I got a crazy deal on it, ordering from a hobby site that offered a student discount for college students.
