k, so i am going to go ahead and buy my camera here in the next few weeks as costco has a smokin deal on the cannon rebel xsi with 2 lenses(18-55 and 55-250), memory card, and carrying case for $849...
i just need to know which macro lense you would pick, and what is the reason behind that......

Canon Telephoto EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Autofocus Lens-$484.99(before $35 instant rebate)

or
Tamron Telephoto SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS -$449.99 (before $90 rebate)

they arew both fairly close in normal price... which ne would you recommend?
thanks
shane

The Canon. OEM lenses retain their value better then 3rd party, AND the Canon does not change length during focusing like the Tamron does. That being said, BOTH lenses are very good, and either will serve you well.

I have a 100mm Canon lens and its awesome! For the money I would go with the Canon because it holds its value as Poseidon stated.

I don't own either lens, but hope to soon..lol. I do, however, own Cannon and Tamron lenses. Aside from holding it's value better and the 10mm of extra reach, look at the warranties of both. Seems to me, if I remember correctly, that Tamron's warranty kicks butt over most other lenses.
