I'm planning a Saturday road trip with a friend or two, hoping to pick up a few corals, maybe a clam... Selection in and around Buffalo MO is somewhat limited... limited to what is in my tank, for the most part ;)
Looking for a shop with a good selection, within a reasonable day trip distance of Springfield, MO.
I'm a fan of LPS (Acans, scoly, trachy, eyphyllia, lobo, etc) and zoa/paly... might consider a plate or tongue coral this trip. Not really looking for SPS, but some of my friends are. I'd like to find a healthy squamosa clam, as well.
So far, I'm looking at:
TL Reefs Mountain Home, AR. About a 2.5 hour drive south. I've never been there, one of the guys going on the road trip has. Web site shows a decent selection of LPS and SPS corals, somewhat limited on softies, and a decent selection of Crocea and Maxima clams. I'm not a big fan of Maximas... too fragile, but crocea would work.
Reef Rack, Lenexa, KS. About a 2.5 hour drive north. Been there once, nice place. Strong on LPS and softies, last time I was in, but not big on SPS. I'm not seeing any clams on their website. Nice thing about this one, there are other stores in the KC area that we might visit, if we're going to be in the area.
Anyone want to offer an opinion on either of these shops, or other shops within a similar driving distance? St. Louis wouldn't be much further... I was there at a frag swap a few weeks ago, and stopped in one LFS. Wasn't real impressive, but not bad. Not worth another trip that way, unless there's another LFS in the area I'm not aware of.
Used to drive to Inland Aquatics in Terre Haute, IN, but I understand it's nowhere near what it was a decade or so back, and their website shows them closing down. A bit far to drive, there and back, in a day anyway.
