Hello,

I'm looking to get a new skimmer to replace my Eshopps S-200, which is too big for my system (59 gal tank + 20 gal sump). I currently only have 5 fish and a couple corals, but I plan to have 8-9-10 fish in a mixed reef.

I am looking into the BubbleMagnus Curve 5 elite (or extreme) and the Aquamaxx ConeS-CO1. Both are approx $300 CAD (which is approx $200 US). Do you have any experience with either of these skimmers? Any other good option for the same budget ?

Thanks !!

When I did the maintenance accounts for a LFS, most of those tanks were running the Simplicity DC skimmers. The 120DC would be a decent fit to consider as well. Very similar price point to the other options you’ve mentioned.
I’ve never had to deal with customer support from Simplicity since their equipment never caused me issues, but I’ve heard it’s very helpful. They also have a 3-year prorated warranty.

You could go with a red sea skimmer 300. I have had it less than a year and skimms pretty good. I actually upgraded to reef octopus elite and would consider selling it if you are interested

I have a bubble magus curve 9 elite and love it. Long break in period, so patience with that. Vinegar bath helps. I also added a valve to micro adjust air which is critical to get a skimmer really dialed in. Why some skimmers don't come with air adjustment valves is beyond me.

I debated going aqua Maxx skimmer, but ultimately ended up staying with a brand I was already familiar with.
