I'm not sure if this is the norm, or not, so wanted to check in here. I'm using Instant Ocean Reef mix, and I notice there's always white deposits at the bottom of the bucket after the salt is mixed and sometimes on the sides. I notice as well in the aquarium some of this is even coating the temperature probe and as well on the glass itself.

When mixing the salt I add a bit at a time, stir it a lot and as well put in a wavemaker and do this over the course of a few hours to ensure the salt is mixed well. Perhaps, it's the salt mix I"m using, or is this common among other brands?

Would appreciate any thoughts - thanks.

White crust is usually calcium/alkalinity precipitating out while being mixed.

Do you heat your mix, or mix cold?

Mixing cold. then heating mitigates some of the precip. I do not heat my WC water at all. 20G in a 80G tank does not drop temps by more then a couple degrees. The ocean goes through temp swings all day long, so not a huge issue.
