Hey community,

I have a white slime looking like hair algae, it goes with the flow. It is on all rocks. But not on the live rocks, corals are still happy.

The slime was coming in the last days.

Before the slime come, I changed some things:

- Added carbon, but at dosage that is to high, so after 1 days I removed it
- Got a better light
- Added the first 8 SPS, before only soft corals
- Tank is 3 months old

Also I had zero Phosphate and zero Nitrat.

So what did I do since then:
- Feeding 3 times and not 2 times like before, today I see a little colour in phosphate Test
- Removed Carbon
- Added UVC

Also I stopped the waterchange, I will do it my nutrients back to zero. Im using All for Reef to supply the tank.

Any ideas what it is?

Thank you so much

when did this start happening? I see you mentioned your tank is three months old sps in a three month old tank is going to be very hard to keep. Cut back on your feeding what is your lighting schedule like

In Germany it is common to add easy sps like montis in the first 2-4 weeks. Never had Problems with it, if the water Parameters rock solid. They stand also very good.

Lightning is a maxspect 120watt with 120° lenses. Straight both canals on 100% for 11 hours. I measured 500 par on the surface.

This film your seeing could just be the early part of your tank maturing into becoming a mature tank I think over time it should disappear

I believe he was saying he added activated carbon. The stuff does not grow long so it’s nothing to worry about. I wouldn’t even brush it. Let the tank mature.

I have this white hairy slime also, does anyone know what it is? Or anything that will eat it? I have a huge cuc but nothing is touching it. Should I just ignore it - new tank, part of the process?

I get that when dosing carbon. Seems to occur when overdone and goes away quickly once I seize dosing. Believed to be a bacterial slime and my CUC don't touch it, either. You'd think pods would but never heard of that.

One of my Halloween hermits found it and went crazy for it! Scraped all the rocks clean. Now I just wish he would eat my hydroids.
