I have been thinking about getting an eel for my reef for a while. I recently found on DD a White Margin Eel which is listed as reef safe. I know Dr. Foster and Smith is a reliable company but should i trust them? I have looked on the internet for a while but haven't found anything specifically about this eel. My biggest question is what do they eat because i know that eels are either fish eaters or invert eaters depending on their teeth. Any incite would be appreciated, Thanks!

The only eel I have found to be "safe" has been the golden dwarf eel from Hawaii. They are really messy and will give you a run for your money keeping nitrates in check for a reef tank. You also have to spot feed them and make sure they are not hungry or a slow moving fish will be dinner for any of them....IMO

I personally do not trust eels in anything aside from a pred tank.
my office tank had a snowflake eel and some clowns and damsels. soon we had a snowflake eel :)

personally i'd keep any eel out of the reef

Seems like if it fits it's dinner in regards to most eels. I have read a few posting from people who claim they do not have that problem but keep the eel very full and happy. Just never know when the eel decides it wants a midnight snack. You also need a tight fitting lid or it will escape.
