I just got this hippo tang today via FedEx. I just noticed his eye. My question is this a parasite or just damage from shipping?

On a side note, he is eating just fine.

Tough to say for sure, but I'd say damage in shipping/handling.

Let it adjust to your tank for 72 hours. You should then start a copper treatment. If the eye doesn't resolve, or the second eye becomes involved, then you need to decide if it is Neobenedenia flukes or a bacterial infection. A diagnostic FW dip can help with that.

Most likely an Eye Bump. My longhorn cowfish had the same thing and it healed in two weeks. If the entire eye gets cloudy or starts to protrude make sure and treat with Furan 2. Furan 2 and Copper Power will not kill the bacteria in your tank if you have already properly cycled to begin with.

So I think my plan is this. Let them settle in the qt tank for a few days. Do a FW dip for the hippo to rule out flukes. Start copper treatment cycle. Followed by ParaziPro treatment. I'm guessing that will be a total qt time of about 45 days. How does this sound as a plan?

If the eye is getting better, don’t do the dip, it may only make it flare up again.
