Hi all,

Got a Tomini tang, one spot fox face, Midas blenny and Bangaii Cardinal all in coppesafe quarantine. It’s day 15. Using copper safe, last copper level was 2.6 using hannachecker (I try to stay as close to 2.5 as possible), ammonia badge yellow, temp 77deg

the Tomini had a homogenous whitish abrasion along the right flank which was likely a scratch but I have noticed that there are white stringy growth near the mouth and face as well as white spots on the fins.

I gave a FW bath about a week ago , didn’t see anything fall off and then started metronidazole 240mg per gallon(this is through a vet since I am in Canada) with 3rd dose administered yesterday with 25% water change before each dose.

really at a loss, thought it was ext flukes, brook or ich Now wondering if it’s bacterial or viral. I also have sulfatrim and prazi from vet.

Any ideas?

Sorry, just to edit the dose of metronidazole was 250 mg per 10 gallons, I just did another freshwater dip, this time we did see, white stringy, poop come out of the fish, suggesting internal parasites, should I stop the copper, remove with water change, and cuprisorb, and start Prazi?

if the metro is being added to foods, Its .5gm weight which is a very tiny amount or using provided scoop= 2 scoops per 10 gallons if mixed into water. As for white poop - are you by chance feeding mysis shrimp, brine shrimp or both? If so it often mimics internal issues which metro would address. I see what looks like lympho on fins But pics are fuzzy and there is water dots and other dots in each image

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

I avoid using metro and copper in the water at the same time.

Unlikely to be ich, not after 15 days of copper. Tangs don’t get brooklynella often, if at all. You will only see one species of fluke in dip water without a microscope (Neobenedenia). Do you have access to

White feces can have a variety of causes - internal protozoans, bacteria or just upset from diet or stress.

My experience has always been to just leave them alone and make sure to feed them healthy food. In my 7+ years (this time around), I have only lost two tangs due to parasite. If your system is clean and you feed well, fish should recover.

Thanks for the reassurance, the fish is eating well so the white stringy poop in the FW dip may be due to mysis heavy diet and stress? just adding one more pic showing the stringy stuff on the head, you can see it near the right eye

Im not sure what that stringy thing is. It looks wormlike, but worms don’t hang out like that.
