Today I was resetting the egg crate divider to separate the sections for clownfish within a 55g tank. I got thinking about all of the ways that I have used egg crate in and around my aquariums over the years including as lids, dividers, stands, hooks, and more. Have you used egg crate in your tank and, if so, how?

Just used some on my new im15.
I cut off the sock and glued a piece to the bottom. I can now use filter floss.
I also made a rack for the second chamber to keep whatever I put in their off the bottom with good flow.
I also have egg crate in my 45's sump to keep rock off the bottom and as a equipment divider.
I have used it on my 120 with euro bracing as a top to keep fish in.

Lids, frag racks, frames for Aragocrete frag racks, hangers, in-tank Fuge stand....

Two hanging Egg Crate racks on the far left, 3 hanging Aragocrete egg crate hanging racks (I call them EggRagoRack) along the top hanging on the back, Fuge stand on the far right, 5 or 6 frag stand (EggRagoRack) in the sand and another EggRagoRack shelf between the legs of the Fuge stand.

And the lids.

I use it to place my rocks on in the tank. That way while busy with an aquascape there is little risk of dropping a rock and cracking the glass.

I use then all the time.
I got a big one that is sometimes used as a lid on the 75gal.
I use others to trap fish, catch fish for frags to turn over sand.
Most of the time it's me trapping fish in a little area.
I also plan during the summer and beyond after I move to use them to divide fish during qt.

I have used it for frag racks.
I've also used it at the bottom of my tank for the rock scaping to sit on. in my mind, i think it helps rocks from tumbling over with the possibility of any tunneling creatures I may get. Also keeps everything stable and protects the glass.

I'm starting my 120 upgrade. I'm going to use it to cover the bottom glass and support the rock structures. That way I don't have to worry about a pressure point from the rocks. Plus, I'd like to get some engineer gobies at some point, so the grid will keep them out from under the rocks. :)

I also use it for quick or temporary lids.

Thanks,
-Chris
