Why did you come back to reefing?

I had been into reef tanks since the mid 80’s. It was something my father, a chemical engineer, loved doing and it was a bonding thing for us. I kept tanks most of my life. I was living in a very small house and I didn’t have the room or the money for reef tanks. My father passed away 8 years ago. He left us an inheritance he never told us about. 8 years after his passing, I bought a big/nice house and now, thanks to dad, I have the resources for a first class tank. I’m also on permanent disability so I have a vast ocean of free time. Money, space, time all equal it’s time for a new reef tanks. My new tank is being delivered this morning actually. I’m beyond excited to get going! Things have changed a lot in the 8+ years I’ve been gone, but as it always was, it’s fascinating to see where we are!
This was my dads 800 gallon in wall reef he spent 20+ years building.

After a 14 year hiatus (reefcentral days) I have come back to reefing. I noticed there are others with similar absences. Why did you leave? Why did you come back? Just curiosity.

After the initial tank, I went into a monster African cichlid tank after which I downsized and ended up moving cross country. No tanks after that for about 8 years before kicking it back into fish with a 10 gallon betta set up.

Have plans for a big reef, and was working on the house to prep. Getting close! But for now, have a 15 aio to take care of the itch.
I had a 40 gallon bowfront for about 5 years that went with me as I moved apartments around town and getting married. Then we moved states and the tank did not come. When we bought a house the plan was to start a tank. We bought a house but money was tight. Fast forward about 10 years to now. We have moved again and bought a house. I started a tank with a little extra money from selling our previous house. Tank has been running about 6 weeks now.

Got out in 2010 basically to appease the wife. Got rid of her in 2019 when I realized neither one of us would be happy with the other one. Got my/our mine bills in order over the next 2 years and came back in 22. Last 5 years are the happiest I have been in 15 years.
