Why do my watchman goby's always go missing.

So he's in the area a net or hand can't reach I can get my hand in but the chamber but my hand hits a plastic area in between the bottom of the overflow and the chamber. when shine my flashlight he's under some plastic that I can't get any where near.

Looking at the design he's in the return with the pump. And I can see him through the chamber.

Cut acrylic piece to fit down on each side where it goes under.. so put one down on the side he is not, then scare him to the middle or feed or somehow get him to the middle.. then slide the other piece down so he cant go back down either direction, then net him out.

Then go buy some more live or dry rock.

Also he may just go right back in there.

Your LFS should have a very small shrimp net, if you don't have anything small enough.

Im going to get some small plexi glass and a smaller net as well hopefully that works.

Is this actually a known thing that can kill gobies as most will eat sand. I dont know if it is dinos they say its stringy with air bubbles.
I don’t know if it is common, but it is certainly possible as those toxins are pretty nasty. They definitely kill snails and urchins who eat them inadvertently.

Its hard to know if it is dinos or just diatoms, but thought I would throw it out there since it seems you have exhausted other explanations…

Edit: Nevermind, it sounds like you found him :D
